6PPD-quinone is a transformation product of 6PPD, an anti-degradant in vehicle tires. Tire wear particles are released from tires due to normal wear and friction. During rain events, tire wear particles are transported from roadways to nearby streams where 6PPD-quinone can result in toxic effects for coho salmon.
